³⁵ So David received from her hand what she had brought for him. Then he said to her, “Go up to your house in peace. You see, I have listened to your voice and have shown you favor.”

³⁶ Abigail came to Nabal and saw that he was holding a feast^[a] in his house, a feast fit for a king. Nabal was in good spirits, because he had drunk a lot. So she told him nothing at all until the morning light.

³⁷ In the morning, when the wine had worn off for Nabal, his wife told him about these things, and his heart died within him, and he became like a stone.^[b]
